So...this poor goose has had her fair share of sickness. If you can remember way back to this post where I talked about how she loves to do her little leg thing. Well come to find out....2 years later, the reason she does the leg thing is because she has urinary reflux. The tube that goes from your kidney to your bladder has a little flap on the end where it goes into your bladder. And, on some children that flap doesn't function correctly, and the urine refluxes back up into their kidney. Therefore, she gets TONS of bladder infections. The reason she does her leg thing is because she has a bladder infection. She had been having bladder infections, basically since she has been born.
We have had to go through a nasty test to figure this out, while she was laying on the table screaming, and we had to hold her down. I know that a lot of people have it worse off than this, and see their child suffering a lot more than I do. But, I don't wish having to hold your child on a table while the doctors "hurt" them, on anyone! Now if we go near a doctor's office, she screams and cries, saying she doesn't want the doctors to hurt her. It breaks my heart.
Our doctor has tried to control the reflux by putting her on a low dose of antibiotics that she takes nightly, and then there is a huge list of things that we are supposed to do on top of that to try to minimize the bladder infections. The doctor said that we want to keep her bladder infections down to one maybe two a year. Well.....she's had two already this year, and after putting her on a round of antibiotics, it still didn't kill the infection, so we went on another round, and it still wasn't working, so they gave her a broad spectrum antibiotic shot (the peanut butter one), and we finally got on top of it. Long story short, we are being sent to a pediatric urologist at Primary Children's Medical Center in April to see if they recommend her getting surgery.
Some of me would love to just be done with the constant doctor's visits, and urine samples, and antibiotics, but how can any mother wish surgery on their 2 year old?
This was after going to the doctor's office. She passed out on our bed, while I was trying to do something else. Poor little bug.
It's so hard to see your kids sick! We've taken Logan down to the urologists at Primary Children's and they're great. He has surgery at 8 months and did great. Kids bounce back so quick and she probably won't even remember it all. The hardest part is not letting them eat before surgery, but if you have to do it, it will all work out and she'll feel much better.
